Spirited Batley defeated by Fields

BATLEY remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division table despite a valiant effort against Northowram Fields.

Opening partnership Mustafa Bhatti (50) and Fawad Maqsood (62) scored 110 for the first wicket and Mohammed Bashir added 34 from number six as Batley scored 182.

Home bowlers Ayaz Seedat (4-55) and Tariq Hussain (2-36) enjoyed success with the ball but Fields held on to reach 184-8 with one over remaining.

Birstall came up short by 38 runs in their trip to second-placed New Farnley.

Saif Ur-Rehman (2-69) and James Byrne (2-25) enjoyed some success with the ball but the home side returned to the pavilion on 189-8.

Connor Williams (39) and Robert Peregrine (30) showed their mettle in Birstall’s top order but the visitors came up short on 151-7.

Bad light brought an end to Carlton’s clash with Mirfield Parish Cavaliers.

Mohammed Zeb (2-51), Daniel Hope (2-47) and Bradley Drake (2-43) took two wickets apiece only for James Cooper (37) to inspire Carlton to a declaration on 198-9.

Cavaliers were on 37-2 when the match was abandoned with 18 overs bowled.
