Top two suffer defeats on dramatic day in Bradford Premier League

Champions Pudsey St Lawrence were defeated for only the second time this season as they went down by three wickets at New Farnley but Hanging Heaton were unable to take advantage as they lost a high scoring contest by eight runs at Farsley.

Farsley showed their batting prowess as South African James Price (75) got them off to a good start before Ryan Cooper took centre stage with an unbeaten 85, which contained a six and 10 fours, as they closed on 233-8.

Hanging Heaton suffered a huge blow when the league’s top runscorer Gary Fellows was trapped lbw off the second ball of the innings by James Wainman for a duck.

Joe Fraser (42) and Nick Connolly (30) stabilised the innings before wicketkeeper Ismail Dawood took charge.

Heaton required 19 from 15 balls when Dawood (73) was the ninth man out, a victim of Adam Ahmed who produced a decisive spell of 4-14.

With 14 needed from the last over, Hanging Heaton managed five before Tom Chippendale was run out to seal victory for the home side.

St Lawrence found batting tricky as they were restricted to 152-9 in a match reduced to 32 overs per side,

James Smith (52) top scored, while Mark Lawson (3-34) and Mohammed Bilal (3-47) shone for New Farnley.

James Middlebrook made 48 and Nick Walker 33 to steer Farnley home.

St Lawrence (177) have a 22-point lead over Heaton with Farsley a further 14 adrift.
