Trinity offer Moor tough test – Trojans tussle with leaders

The sides met only two weeks ago at Church street, when Moor gained a convincing 40-6 success and last week they made further National Cup progress with an exciting 16-10 win over Upton to earn a tough fourth round tie at holders Queens or Skirlaugh.

Moor are third in the division with games in hand so they look sure to qualify for the new Championship division, which will be formed shortly by the top four in the Division One East and West sections. They have yet to visit Batley Boys in the Jim Brown Heavy Woollen Cup semi-final.

Dewsbury Celtic were due to visit White Rose in the John Kane Cup semi-final tomorrow but they have been given a walk-over and will meet Shaw Cross in the final on a date to be arranged.

Celtic travel to Manston tomorrow while neither Rose or Cross A have a Yorkshire League fixture this weekend.

Thornhill Trojans have a big game in Pennine League Division Three when they host leaders Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks at Overthorpe Park.

The pair have yet to meet this time and Thornhill are fourth, five points behind the Hawks but with four games in hand so there is a lot at stake.

The Trojans are also holding their annual race night tomorrow in Thornhill Sports & Community Centre, starting at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.

Shaw Cross Sharks face their most difficult task of the league season as they visit National Conference Division Two leaders Hunslet Warriors (2pm).

They lost 40-4 to the Warriors at Bywell Fields in November and the Hunslet side have so far won 12 and drawn one of 13 games, scoring 500 points and conceding 116.

While the Sharks are developing their squad with several young players, the Warriors have a strong basis of ex-professionals, among them Darren Robinson, Ryan Angus, Caldon Bravo and Omar Mehdi, while Mark Cunningham and Mark Holmes had trials at Batley. They have also signed former Hunslet Hawks players George Rayner and Chris Ross.

The Sharks were frustrated last week as their home game against Elland became another victim of the weather, while the Warriors lost for the first time this season against Conference Premier Leigh East in the National Cup.
